Differentiated instruction in my classroom

Here is how I will integrate Differentiated Instruction in my classroom.

Supporting every learner

As a future teacher, my primary goal is to use various teaching methods to ensure all students feel supported and successful. This is particularly important to me because of my own experiences in special education. I understand the need for extra support and different learning approaches. I plan to present lessons in diverse ways, incorporating reading aloud, visual aids, and hands-on or technology-based activities. During a reading lesson, I might read a story while students follow along with pictures or a short video to enhance their understanding.

Tailoring instruction for success

I will regularly check for understanding by asking questions, observing students, and using quick activities like whiteboards. In a math lesson, this strategy helps me identify which students are ready to advance and which may require additional assistance.  For writing assignments, some students may be encouraged to write detailed paragraphs, while others might benefit from sentence starters or graphic organizers to structure their thoughts. This helps everyone do the same assignment, just on the level of their personal learning path.

Practical applications and outcomes

I plan to introduce new concepts through engaging, hands-on activities, such as using math manipulatives like dot counters, before transitioning to explained reasoning. To ensure all learners, including those with special needs, are fully supported, I will offer accommodations like small group instruction, clear directions, and extended time when necessary. I will guide students' thinking to their own pace and not rush their learning process.
